Salesforce Development & Customisation
Salesforce development for requirements that configuration cannot meet
We build custom objects, Apex logic, Lightning Web Components and Flow automation on Salesforce, review code written by others, and keep customisation tidy enough that your own admins can maintain it.
Salesforce
What is Salesforce development?
Salesforce development is the building of custom functionality on the Salesforce platform. It includes data model design with custom objects and fields, automation in Salesforce Flow, server-side logic in Apex, user interface components in Lightning Web Components, and APIs, so the platform can support processes that standard configuration cannot handle alone.
Good Salesforce development begins with restraint. Standard features and Flow solve most problems with less risk and less upkeep than code. We reach for Apex and Lightning Web Components only when there is a clear reason: a calculation that Flow cannot express, a screen that needs richer behaviour, or an integration that must run in bulk.
When code is justified, we write it to Salesforce's platform limits: bulkified triggers, one trigger per object with a handler pattern, tests that assert behaviour instead of only covering lines, and no hard-coded identifiers. Changes move through a sandbox pipeline in version control, so releases are reviewable and reversible.
We also take on orgs that have grown untidy. A code and configuration review shows which flows overlap, which fields are unused and where performance risks sit, and gives you a ranked plan to fix them without breaking the sales and service teams who depend on the org every day.
Challenges
The problems we are usually brought in to solve
Automation conflicts
Overlapping flows, old workflow rules and triggers fire in unexpected order, causing duplicate updates, errors and slow saves.
Governor limit failures
Code written for one record at a time hits query and DML limits during imports and integrations, and fails in production.
Tests that only chase coverage
Tests written to reach a coverage figure pass while real behaviour breaks, so deployments are trusted without being verified.
Hard-coded values and manual releases
Record IDs in code and changes made directly in production make environments differ and releases unpredictable.
Pages that feel slow
Heavy layouts, many components and inefficient queries make record pages sluggish for users who open them all day.
No documentation
When the original developer leaves, nobody can say why a flow or class exists, so nothing gets removed and risk grows.
Capabilities
What the service covers
Data model design
Objects, relationships, record types and field-level security planned for reporting, performance and long-term change.
Apex development
Triggers, batch and queueable jobs, REST endpoints and services written to platform limits, with meaningful unit tests.
Lightning Web Components
Custom record page components, forms and tables with accessible markup, reusable across apps and Experience Cloud sites.
Salesforce Flow
Record-triggered, scheduled and screen flows with fault paths and clear naming, replacing legacy workflow rules and process builders.
Validation and approvals
Validation rules, approval processes and permission design that enforce business rules without frustrating users.
Code and org reviews
Static analysis, manual review and performance checks of existing Apex, flows and configuration, with a ranked remediation plan.
Sandbox and release pipeline
Version-controlled metadata, scratch orgs or sandboxes, automated tests and repeatable deployments through CI.
Documentation and handover
Plain-language documentation of objects, automation and code, with walkthroughs for your administrators.
Our process
How an engagement runs
Every engagement has a named lead, a written scope and working software to review every one to two weeks.
- 01
Confirm the requirement
We restate what users need, check whether standard features can meet it and agree on code only where they cannot.
- 02
Design the solution
We sketch the data model, automation and components, and note limits, security and reporting effects before building.
- 03
Build in a sandbox
Metadata lives in version control, with code review and automated tests on every change.
- 04
Test with users
Business users test realistic scenarios in a full-copy or partial sandbox, and we fix issues before deployment.
- 05
Deploy and document
We deploy through the pipeline with a rollback plan, then update documentation and walk your admins through the change.

Use cases
Where it makes the biggest difference
A custom quoting screen
A Lightning Web Component that guides reps through product choice and price rules, then writes a clean opportunity record.
Bulk-safe integration logic
Apex services that process thousands of incoming records from an ERP without hitting platform limits.
Replacing legacy workflow rules
Old workflow rules and process builders rewritten as documented Flows, removing conflicts and speeding up saves.
Approval process for discounts
A multi-step approval with escalation, notifications and an audit trail tied to opportunity data.
Custom objects for a niche process
A data model for projects, contracts or assets that Salesforce's standard objects do not cover.
Code review before a big release
A structured review that finds risky triggers, weak tests and performance problems before they reach production.
Industries

Why Softweb Planet
Why teams choose us for this work
Configuration before code
We solve what we can with standard features and Flow, so you carry less custom code to maintain.
Code that respects platform limits
Bulkified, tested and reviewed Apex means imports and integrations do not fail when volumes grow.
Version control and CI
Our DevOps engineers set up pipelines so releases are repeatable, reviewable and reversible.
Handover without dependency
We document in plain language, so your admins and any future developer can pick the work up.
What you can expect
- Custom functionality that follows platform limits and passes meaningful tests
- Automation that is documented, named clearly and free of conflicts
- A repeatable release path through sandboxes
- An org your own administrators can maintain
Salesforce Development & Customisation FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Use Flow when the logic is a clear series of steps on records, because it is quicker to build and easier for admins to maintain. Use Apex for complex calculations, bulk processing, custom APIs or logic that Flow cannot express reliably. We start with Flow and add code only with a clear reason.
Lightning Web Components are Salesforce's modern framework for building custom user interface elements using standard web technologies such as JavaScript and HTML. They run on record pages, apps and Experience Cloud sites. We use them when standard layouts cannot deliver the behaviour or screens your users need.
Yes. We run static analysis, review triggers, classes, flows and permissions, and test performance on realistic data. You receive a ranked report of risks and quick wins, and we can carry out the fixes in a sandbox, then deploy through a controlled release.
We bulkify triggers, keep queries and updates outside loops, use asynchronous processing for heavy work and test with data volumes that match production. Reviews check for limit risks before deployment, so imports and integrations that process many records at once do not fail.
We write Apex tests that assert behaviour for single and bulk records, not only coverage, and test flows with realistic scenarios in a sandbox. Business users then run acceptance tests. Automated tests run in CI on every change, so regressions are caught before release.
Yes. We inventory existing automation, find overlaps and conflicts, then rebuild the logic as documented record-triggered Flows with fault paths. We migrate in stages and test each one, which usually makes saves faster and behaviour easier to explain.
Yes. We design objects, relationships, record types and security around your process and reporting needs, using standard objects where they fit. A good model is easier to report on and cheaper to extend, so we agree it with you before building any automation on top.
Yes. Metadata is stored in Git, changes are reviewed, and deployments run through sandboxes and CI with automated tests. This avoids changes made directly in production, keeps environments consistent and makes any release repeatable or reversible if something unexpected happens.
That is the aim. We prefer configuration and Flow over code, name components clearly and document objects, automation and classes in plain language. We also walk your admins through each release and are available for questions, so you are not dependent on us for routine changes.
Yes. We build Lightning Web Components and Apex services for portals, such as order tracking, case forms and document lists, with sharing rules that limit each user to their own records. We also test accessibility and performance, because portal users are often customers, not staff.
